Ride Out The Storm
“Ride out the storm!”
he called to her
Thru the starless
night
“Calm is just beyond
the horizon…”
Holding fast beneath
the tattered canopy
She clung to his
words
Prayer upon her lips
Winds billowing her
garments
As sails
Mist wrapped her in a
glistening cloak
“Take my hand before
we perish….”
Whispers lost to fear
and thunder
For days the rains
cascaded
Surges of heaving
ocean wrath
Showering not a shred
of mercy
Upon two travelers
lost in time
They had embarked
upon a journey
Without charting
first their course
Leaving to chance
their fate
And now it had come
to this!
The restless moon was
powerless
Against such raging
torrents
Black night skies
prevailed
Days were grim with
claws of sun
That splintered with
the mast
Determined waves
reached out for him
Hurling threats with
muscular arms
He fought their might
Fearing he would
weaken,
Yet she
trusted his strength
To guide them thru
the fury
Sheltered, she
watched helplessly
His struggle for
survival
“Don’t leave me
here!” she cried frantically
And as the ravenous
sea devoured,
The final image in
the blur of her vision
Was his mass of
salt-soaked hair
Blending to boiling
oblivion
And then he was gone
She was alone!
Feasting tides raged
Insatiably raking her
skin
For moments that
seemed endless doom
She held tight and
cowered then wondered
For what reason did
she wrap her
Stiffened fingers
about salavation of blistering steel
Cold as her silencing
heart
Loneliness was
senseless cruelty
Life would be futile
Suddenly she was
lifted to heaven
Up up high into the
clouds
She bathed in gentle
currents of air
As the winds grew
meek
And stroked her,
drying the past;
The storm had ceased
for her entry
Into a place of peace
There before her
wisps of blue light
Shimmering thru a
swirling haze
Beckoned soothing
voices
“The calm….”
Recalling his words
She bowed her head
and wept
For if only he had
shared her faith
Together they would
have dwelled
In Forever
